Belmond Lilas invites you to step into a world of understated indulgence. Soft furnishings and rustic timbers echo the surrounding landscape of Burgundy. Take a dip in the outdoor pool, or savour divine local delicacies on deck. Each sensational adventure explores the region’s finest vineyards and legendary chateaux.

Accommodation

Cabins. Four generous cabins offer king or twin beds, with private bathrooms - shower, toilet, wash basin.

Dining Room. Formal dining room for dinners.

Lounge. Savour lunch in the lounge, with full-width doors that open up for an alfresco atmosphere.

Heated pool and sundeck. Soak up the sun while relaxing in the heated pool on deck, or relax in the shade under the canopy.

WiFi and computer with internet access, Bose iPod docking station, selection of books, games, satellite TV, DVDs and CDs.

Itineraries 2022/2023

St Leger to Pontailler-Sur-Saone

Discover the historical region of Burgundy as you travel in luxury aboard Belmond Lilas. Explore charming villages, marvel the rolling countryside and taste the exceptional wines created there.

Day 1 St Leger. We await your arrival at St Leger. Step aboard for a champagne reception as you meet the captain and crew. Tonight, dine deliciously on classic French cuisine prepared by your Chef.

Day 2 Chagny. Spend this morning at leisure as we cruise to Chagny. Step ashore for a stroll along the towpath, or keep up with the barge on a cycle ride. Lunch is served as the barge winds along the canal. After lunch, enjoy a visit to the family run wine estate Château de Chamirey. Here you will be given a tour of the vineyards and wine cellar, followed by a tasting of the fine wines. Return to the barge for dinner.

Day 3 Beaune. Spend the morning relaxing while the barge cruises to the market town of Chalon. After lunch disembark with your guide and visit the charming old town of Beaune to see the famous Hotel-Dieu, a magnificent 15th century charity hospital, followed by a private wine tasting. There is time to stroll through the Old town taking in the wonderful architecture and fine shopping before returning to the barge. Tonight, dinner is served at a charming local restaurant.

Day 4 Chateau De Rully. This morning your guide will take you to the pretty village of Rully and the 12th century medieval fortress which has remained in the same family by marriage since its origin. The owner will guide you through his home sharing the intriguing history of his ancestors. Return to the barge for lunch and enjoy a somewhat different cruising experience this afternoon, as we leave the canal behind and join the majestic Soane River. Dinner on board.

Day 5 St Jean De Losne. This morning the barge continues the cruise upstream on the Saone River to St Jean De Losne. After lunch on board we visit the historic Clos de Vougeot where the Cistercian monks first began making wine in the 12th century. The ancient chateau is now the headquarters of the celebrated Burgundian wine society, the confrererie des chevaliers de tastevin and contains the ancient cellar and wine presses from the medieval times. Rejoin the barge in St Jean de Losne, this evening mooring location. Dinner on board.

Day 6 Dijon. After breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of historic Djion including a visit to the market, the famous Maille mustard shop and the Ducal Palace, seat of the great medieval dukes of Burgundy. Free time for shopping, and lunch at one of the pavement cafes. Return to the boat after lunch for the final cruise towards Pontailler-Sur-Saone. As the chef prepares for your farewell gala dinner on board, perhaps try an aperitif; a cocktail which mixes the locally produced cassis black current liqueur with the area's Aligote white wine.

Day 7 Disembark. After breakfast we say goodbye as you disembark for your onward travel arrangements.

Pontailler-Sur-Saone to St Leger Sur Dheune

Venture inland to visit Burgundy’s historic chateaux and world-class wineries. The region’s rich heritage and famous flavours are waiting to be discovered, all while you enjoy a life of refined indulgence on board— of course!

Day 1 Pontailler. We await your arrival at Pontailler. Step aboard for a champagne reception as you meet the captain and crew. Tonight, you’ll dine deliciously on classic French cuisine prepared by your Chef.

Day 2 Cote D'or. Arise this morning to the gentle motion of the barge gliding along the Saone River. After lunch, set off for a drive down the famous route des Grands crus, passing the glorious villages of the Cote d’Or. You will then visit the celebrated Clos de Vougeot vineyard and Château, followed by a private wine tasting. Return to the barge for a delectable dinner freshly prepared by Chef.

Day 3 Dijon. Savour a delicious breakfast before you head to historic Dijon. Explore the market, the famous Maille mustard shop and the Ducal Palace, seat of the great medieval dukes. You’ll have free-time to wander through the town and to choose from one of its cafés for lunch. In the afternoon return to the barge and relax into a cruise along the majestic Soane River to Verdun sur le Doubs. Dinner this evening is served on board the barge.

Day 4 Rully. This morning includes the fascinating experience of moving from the Saone River to the Canal du Centre. The barge will pass through the impressive Crissey lock whilst you sit back and take in your surroundings. After lunch you will enjoy a guided tour from the owner of a 12th century medieval fortress in the village of Rully. The owner will guide you through his home sharing the intriguing history of his ancestors. This evening dine at a charming local restaurant.

Day 5 Beaune. Spend this morning at leisure as we cruise along the canal. If you wish you may disembark the barge at a lock, and bicycle or walk alongside. After lunch onboard, you will visit the historic city of Beaune and enjoy a private tour of the magnificent Hotel Dieu, a brilliantly decorated charity hospital that represents Burgundy’s fascinating history. After some time to explore the town at leisure, you will return to the barge this evening for a delectable dinner on board.

Day 6 St Leger. Rise this morning for a delicious breakfast, followed by a leisurely cruise to our final destination, the quaint village of St Léger. After lunch you will visit Château de Chamirey, where you will enjoy a tour of the vineyards, property and wine cellar. After a tasting of the fine range of wines you will return to the barge for your sensational farewell feast. Toast to your adventure on the deck where you will be served ‘Kir’ cocktails, a delicious mix of locally produced Cassis and Aligote white wine.

Day 7 Disembark. Awake to enjoy an indulgent breakfast. After, the crew bids you a fond farewell as you disembark for your onward travel arrangements.
