The slow-pace of cruising is embodied in the Belmond Road To Mandalay. Travelling along the mighty Ayeyarwady River, also known as the Irrawaddy, taking in the country's most mesmerising landscapes, allows one the chance to explore rural villages from a bygone era.

Every day is filled with events, excursions, exquisite dining and entertainment. There are topical lectures by local and international experts or cooking class where you'll learn Burmese specialities.

Accommodation

Cabins. Each cabin has been designed to combine comfort and elegance, while reflecting local styles and materials.

Observation Deck. The perfect spot on the Belmond Road To Mandalay from which to watch life on the river and its shores. Here you can soak up the sun, have a drink at the bar, or take a refreshing dip in the pool. This is the largest outdoor space of any river cruise ship in Myanmar

Restaurant. Choose from a breakfast buffet, enjoy themed lunches and sit down in the evening to gourmet dinners with complimentary local beer and wine.

Bar & Grill Restaurant. Situated on the Observation Deck, the alfresco Bar & Grill Restaurant offers refined local cuisine in a truly inspiring setting, with a gourmet grill station and fine wines available from our vintage selection.

From majestic Mandalay to breathtaking Bagan, cruise along the Ayeyarwady River aboard Belmond Road to Mandalay, soaking up unforgettable sights and immersing yourself in inspiring activities.

4 days/3 nights.

Day 1. Board the ship at Shwe Kyet Yet village near Mandalay. Enjoy an afternoon discovering the city's key sites and traditional arts, including a visit to a family of bronze casters. Back on board, dine on Asian and Western cuisine in the elegant Restaurant, enjoying excellent house wines or selecting an international label from the extensive list.

Day 2. If you wish, join an early-morning yoga session, followed by a refreshing treat from the Healthy Juice Bar. Join a Buddhist almsgiving ceremony and experience village life near our jetty before the ship sets sail. Alight in Ava to explore the ancient capital, taking a traditional horse and cart tour or discover the sights by bike. As the ship sails to Bagan, the range of onboard activities include a talk on Myanmar culture, sampling local infusions in our Burmese Tea Shop, learning how to dress in a traditional longyi or have your fortune told by an astrologer. You can also indulge in a treatment at the spa, work out in the gym or relax by the pool on the Observation Deck.

Day 3. Rise early to attend a soothing meditation session before the ship arrives in Bagan. A range of tour options is available today. Choose from “Introduction to Bagan” for temples and history, “A Day in the Life” for local culture, food and markets, or “Bagan by Bicycle” .Before rejoining the ship for lunch, stroll through the small village that is home to Belmond’s private jetty near Old Bagan. You may wish to visit Belmond’s free clinic, where our onboard doctor will be treating local patients.In the afternoon visit Ananda, one of Bagan’s most magnificent temples. Continue your tour exploring an off-the-beaten-track temple by torchlight, before ending your visit admiring the sunset over the plains. Dine under the stars at the Road to Mandalay Grill on the Observation Deck, before enjoying a classic marionette performance.

Day 4. For an additional supplement, early rising guests can take a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the pagodas. An early-bird breakfast is served before you disembark from Belmond Road to Mandalay for your onward travel arrangement.

Day 1. Board the ship at Taung Be village near Bagan. After lunch on board, set off on a guided tour to Ananda, one of Bagan’s most magnificent temples. Explore a rarely visited temple by torchlight and learn about the traditional art of lacquerware. The day ends watching the sun set over the mesmerising, temple-strewn plains and includes an exclusive candle-lighting ceremony. Day 2. Before setting sail embark on the morning adventure of your choice. Select from a bicycle or horse-and-cart ride around the temples of Old Bagan, a sunrise temple tour or a visit to a local community project. For an additional supplement you can set off on an inspiring hot-air balloon flight. As the ship sails towards Mandalay, enjoy onboard activities ranging from a cultural lecture to a treatment at the spa. Relax by the pool on the Observation Deck or keep fit in the gym. Sample local infusions and delicacies in our Burmese Tea Shop and learn how to dress in traditional Myanmar longyi, a type of sarong. In the evening, dine on a selection of Asian and Western dishes in the elegant Restaurant. Sample the house wines or choose from extensive international wine list.

Day 3. During the morning’s sailing there are a range of activities available, from sunrise yoga and meditation to cookery demonstrations and a talk from the onboard doctor. Arrive in Mingun and choose from two fascinating tours. Discover the historical sites nearby or join a walk through a rural village, engaging with the locals. In the evening you are invited to wear a traditional sarong to our vibrant Longyi Cocktail Party on the Observation Deck.

Day 4. We arrive in Mandalay after a short cruise. Early risers can participate in a Buddhist almsgiving ceremony on shore. Select the tour of your choice: “Highlights of Mandalay” visits important historic sites around the city, including Kuthodaw Pagoda and Shwenandaw Golden Monastery. “Mandalay Arts and Shopping” focuses on the city’s renowned traditional crafts, such as bronze, marble, silk and woodwork. Rejoin the ship at Shwe Kyet Yet village. After lunch, visit the Sagaing Hills, considered to be the living centre of the Buddhist faith in Myanmar. As sunset falls enjoy a champagne cocktail overlooking the amazing U Bein Bridge. After a sumptuous farewell dinner on board, enjoy traditional entertainment.

Rivers: The rivers of Myanmar vary from season to season, with as much as a 30ft variance in water level. From January through June, the Ayeyarwady’s levels may drop, creating a narrower channel for navigation. To allow for these changes, Belmond Road to Mandalay may operate a revised itinerary and mooring locations may be amended.

Prices: Belmond operate a dynamic pricing system. The Best Available rate is subject to availability at time of booking, it is not applicable for parties of 12 or more.
