Accommodation

Cabins: Six decadent cabins each with en-suite bathrooms, for up to 12 guests.

Chalon-Sur-Saone to Tain L'Hermitage

or Tain L'Hermitage to Chalon-Sur-Saone

7 Days / 6 Nights

Take in Cluny’s fortifications, Beaujolais’s local wine, and Lyon’s magnificent Basilica.

Day 1. Board Belmond Napoleon and meet your crew over a champagne reception. Stroll around the market town of Chalon-sur-Saône, admiring the pretty cathedral square.

Day 2. Explore Beaune, the capital of the Burgundy wine region. Tour the magnificent 15th-century hospital Hôtel-Dieu, Hospice de Beaune then browse the chic boutiques. Lunch is served on board before your cruise continues along the Saône past Tournus to Mâcon. This thriving town is the gateway to the Mâconnais wine region.

Day 3. Visit the Abbey of Cluny, for centuries the largest church in the world. Explore the remains of the town’s original fortifications. Have lunch as you cruise through the Beaujolais wine region, sampling the local wine made from the Gamay Noir grape. This evening the barge moors at Montmerle.

Day 4. Visit the beautiful 17th-century Château de Fléchères and its 80 acres of parkland. Return to the barge and savour lunch as your journey continues along the waterways to Lyon. After dinner walk to Lyon’s old town and enjoy a drink in a traditional Lyonnais bar.

Day 5. Tour France's second city, Lyon, renowned for its culture and gastronomy. The ornate Basilica of Nôtre-Dame de Fourvière dominates the skyline. Browse chic boutiques or relax in a pavement cafe, having lunch in the city before returning to the boat. In the afternoon, we leave the River Saône to join the Rhône, berthing at Condrieu.

Day 6. Cruise the Rhône Valley. The vineyards of the Côtes Rôties and Côtes du Rhône almost reach the river’s edge. Arrive at Tain l'Hermitage in the heart of the wine region. Visit Chez Merraton, a local wine producer, and enjoy a wine tasting. Visit the famous Valrhona chocolatiers and taste their delicious confectionery. Back on board dine on a wonderful farewell gala dinner.

Day 7. Have a final breakfast on the barge before the crew bids you farewell and you disembark.

Lyon to Avignon

7 Days / 6 Nights.

Meander the Rhône Valley, taste fine wines and delectable local specialities.

Day 1. Board Belmond Napoleon in Lyon and meet your crew for a champagne reception. Enjoy evening cocktails as you cruise through the centre of Lyon. Then sit down to dine on superb cuisine accompanied by the finest vintages.

Day 2. Tour France's second city, Lyon, renowned for its culture and gastronomy. Admire the ornate Basilica of Nôtre-Dame de Fourvière that dominates the skyline. Browse chic boutiques or relax in a sunny pavement café. Return to the barge and unwind on the deck as you cruise the Rhône Valley to Condrieu.

Day 3. Pass through the magnificent vineyards of the Côtes Rôties and the Côtes du Rhône, which almost reach the river’s edge. In the afternoon enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery. Then continue your journey and discover the delights of Tain-l'Hermitage, which include the famous Valrhona chocolate shop. Dinner will be served once you return to the barge.

Day 4. Cruise to Viviers and admire the beauty of the Rhône Valley from the deck. Disembark mid-afternoon for a guided walk around this charming medieval town. Return to Belmond Napoleon to play the traditional Provençal game pétanque.

Day 5. Take a scenic drive to Nyons, a typical Provençal village with a lavender distillery and 18th-century olive mill. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Grignan. Visit a truffle farm to learn about and taste this world-renowned delicacy. Cruise south to Saint-Etienne-des-Sorts, passing through Bollène lock en-route with its dramatic 23-metre drop.

Day 6. Cruise to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, home of the Popes of Avignon in the 1300s. Tour Château La Nerthe and taste the region’s wines. Enjoy a lunch cruise to Avignon, passing the famous bridge, Pont Saint-Bénezet. Explore this magnificent city taking in the Palace of the Popes and Nôtre Dame. Back on board, share stories over a farewell gala dinner.

Day 7. Have breakfast before the crew bids you farewell and you disembark for your onward travel arrangements.

Avignon to Tain L'Hermitage

Discover grand Roman ruins amid picturesque villages as you sample the Rhone’s finest wines.

Day 1. Step aboard and meet your crew and guide for a champagne reception. In the late afternoon, cruise to Arles. Dine on regional specialities at your first fantastic feast on the river. After dinner tour Arles, famous for its Roman ruins. Van Gogh also stayed here from 1888 to 1889.

Day 2. Visit the traditional 18th-century Provencal bastide in St Rémy for an olive oil tasting. Relax as you cruise to Avignon past the famous Pont Saint-Bénezet. Moor opposite the city gates then visit the spectacular Roman Pont du Gard aqueduct. Enjoy drinks on deck and a sumptuous dinner.

Day 3. Tour Avignon, home to the Popes of Avignon in the 1300s. Enjoy a guided walk around this magnificent city and the Palace of the Popes. Take time to peruse the shops or sample French cafe culture at your leisure. Return to the barge for lunch, then visit the world-famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard. Enjoy a wine tasting here before continuing your cruise to Saint-Etienne-des-Sorts village.

Day 4. Tour the Roman city of Orange, built in 100BC and discover two of the finest Roman monuments in Europe. Cruise to Viviers, passing through the Bollène lock, with its dramatic 23-metre drop. Take a leisurely stroll around this medieval town.

Day 5. Visit Nyons, a typical Provençal village and visit a lavender distillery and 18th-century olive mill. Have lunch at the picturesque village of Grignan, famed for its medieval château. Continue to a truffle farm to learn about and taste this world-renowned delicacy. Join the barge at Le Pouzin and cruise to La Voulte.

Day 6. Visit a colourful market in La Voulte with your chef. Pick out ingredients for lunch, which will be prepared for you back on board. Cruise past the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône to Tain or Tournon. Visit Chez Ferraton, whose winery is a stroll away, and enjoy a tasting and tour. Back on board dine on a wonderful farewell gala dinner.

Day 7. Have breakfast aboard Belmond Napoleon before the crew bids you farewell and you disembark.
